Learn More About Dr. Matthew Pike
Dr. Matthew Pike, owner of Aqueduct Animal Hospital in Rexford, NY, has been passionate about helping animals since he was just 16 years old. After a veterinarian cared for his sick dachshund puppy, Dr. Pike was inspired to begin volunteering at a local animal hospital—an experience that quickly grew into a lifelong calling. He continued working in veterinary medicine throughout college, building a strong foundation of hands-on experience early in his career.
Dr. Pike earned his undergraduate degree from SUNY Geneseo before going on to receive his veterinary degree from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2007, he moved to the Capital District and purchased Aqueduct Animal Hospital in 2009, where he has been dedicated ever since to providing compassionate, high-quality veterinary care to pets and families throughout Rexford, Niskayuna, and the surrounding communities.
Over the years, Dr. Pike has thoughtfully transformed the practice into a modern, state-of-the-art animal hospital in the Capital District. After being told that he couldn’t improve the original Niskayuna location, he ultimately purchased and fully renovated the current Rexford facility with one goal in mind: creating a space where pets and their owners feel safe, comfortable, and well cared for.
His vision led to unique features you won’t find in many veterinary clinics, including separate dog and cat areas to reduce stress, advanced surgical and dental capabilities, and enhanced monitoring for hospitalized pets. He also implemented hospital-wide air filtration and sterilization systems—well ahead of their time—to protect both patients and families while allowing clients to stay close to their pets during care.
Dr. Pike has a special interest in small animal medicine, dentistry, dermatology, soft tissue surgery, behavior, and preventative care, and he is equally passionate about mentoring his team and developing strong leaders within his practice. His approach combines advanced medicine with a genuine focus on the bond between pets and the people who love them.
Outside of work, Dr. Pike values time with his family. While his eldest son is now in college, his house is still full with his beautiful wife, two daughters, a young son, two cats, and a young Golden Retriever named Marty McFly. He’s also an avid Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoys bowling and golfing—though his golf game occasionally involves more time in the rough than on the fairway.
