Veterinarian
Dr. Johnson's journey to becoming a veterinarian began early, with a childhood passion for animals. Raised in Pattersonville, her educational path led her through Schalmont Schools where she has fond memories of science classes, football and basketball games, and wrestling matches. Dr. Johnson pursued a Bachelor's degree in Biology at Elmira College. There, she immersed herself in volunteering at local animal shelters with her friends, cementing her desire to work with animals.
Continuing her academic journey, Dr. Johnson pursued a Master's in Animal Science at the University of Connecticut, specializing in Biotechnology. During this time, she delved into research and embraced helping students prepare their animals for the Little International Livestock show they held each year, all while nurturing her love for animals. Her research on Mycoplasma Bovis in cattle led her to participate in some very exciting business experiences including The Wold New Venture Competition, Accelerate Uconn, and CTNext.
Next, she pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian at Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee. Despite the novelty of Southern life and enduring occasional snow days for ½ an inch of show, she remained connected to her roots in New York. During her time in veterinary school, she adopted Ling, her feline companion, who became accustomed to the rigors of veterinary school life. Dr. Johnson actively engaged in extracurricular activities, serving as treasurer for multiple clubs and organizing events like the Veterinary Business Management Association and the Integrative Medicine Club. Her experiences during rotations solidified her interest in surgery, diagnostic imaging, emergency medicine, and end-of-life care. She gained exposure to a wide array of cases, from routine check-ups to complex surgeries, honing her skills along the way.
Outside of her academic pursuits, Dr. Johnson dedicates her free time to volunteering at shelters and supporting the Spina Bifida Association. Her personal experience with Spina Bifida informs her empathetic approach to veterinary care, emphasizing adaptability and creative problem-solving. Back in her hometown, Dr. Johnson enjoys reconnecting with loved ones and indulging in hobbies like painting, movie nights, and crocheting. She savors opportunities to travel, fueled by memories of past adventures like her trip to Ireland during undergrad. Through her dedication to both her profession and personal passions, Dr. Johnson embodies a commitment to enriching the lives of animals and their owners.
